The "Yagodinska" cave

The Yagodinska cave is located in the Rhodope mountains some 30 km., from the guest house. It is 10 kilometers long and has three floors of which only the third (the lowest) is made accessible to visitors and is fully electrified. There is a 1100 meter path constructed for the visiting tourists and there are artificially built  entrances and exits to this floor with a lengths of 150 and 80 meters respectively.

The natural entrance to the cave leads to its first floor where an ancient dwelling was found to have been inhabited at around the 4th millennium BC. The archaeological finds  seem to suggest that this was the home of skilled potters. The clay was extracted from inside the cave and from the bed of the Buinovska river while the vessels were baked in clay ovens. The inhabitants were forced to leave their homes after the collapse caused by an earthquake. The cave contains countless unique stalactites, stalagmites, "curtains", "leopard skins" (colored rock strata) and cave pearls. The cave maintains a constant temperature of 6°C and unchangeable humidity of 92%.
